Zoe- Chapter 3 Transformation begins

Page-7

Rita left the room in a day and Zoe felt victorious. Zoe started interacting with hostel mates also girls of her floor started visiting her room after Rita left.

Those days Orkut was popular in India. Zoe also created an account on Orkut, She found many school friends there, she added Sam and a few more friends. She wished if she could find Rudra, he was still not out from Zoe’s mind.

Now she had made friends, it became easier for her to settle down. It’s been two months now she has adjusted herself to the hostel life. However, Zoe’s mother was still in pain of departing from her child, she spent hours and hours in Zoe’s room, sleeping in her bed to feel the presence of her only child. She called every hour to hear her voice. Zoe’s father was upset to see the situation of both mother & daughter. He decided to talk to her, one day while Zoe’s mother was crying in Zoe’s room, her father sat silently near to her, said :

“It’s painful to see you both crying like this. You need to be strong and make her as well so that she can adopt. It was her choice to move to another town and you supported her. If you both behave like this, I will bring her back, you both stay happy then”.

Zoe’s Mom: You book the tickets for Gwalior asap. I want to see her.

Nile and other friends often came for group studies in her room. Archie returned after the semester break, they both started sharing a great bond and spent time together.
Archie was a beautiful girl with long and straight hair, she was slim and fair but she was very strict for Zoe and treated her as a sister.

On the other hand, Zoe had Archie and few more friends now in the hostel, college mates and a few online friends one of which was Savy her new chat buddy with whom she spent hours and hours chatting daily, a gentleman, they only texted each other on Orkut. But besides all, Sam and Zoe both got busy in their own lives, the daily phone calls became alternate and then reduced to once in a week.

One evening, Zoe found a pending request from her classmate who was one of Rudra’s best friend. With an intention or hope, she added him that someday Rudra might send her request as well.

Therein Bhagalpur at the same time, Zoe’s mother was packing her bags to travel to Gwalior next day. Zoe was excited to meet her parents finally and she went to the store to buy a few snacks for them.

Finally, the morning arrived, Zoe’s parents were about to reach in the evening. Every minute of the wait was getting difficult for Zoe. Finally, their parents arrived, her mother was tired but her eyes sparkled seeing Zoe’s face. They hugged each other but their parents were now relaxed to see that now their child is able to live alone. They met with all her new hostel friends. Zoe with her family went for shopping and hopped at restaurants. After two days, Zoe’s parents returned but now they were relieved to find their child happy.

Zoe found a new roommate Lashy, she was Archie’s friend and senior of Zoe. Three of them became very good friends. Lashy was a tall and slim girl came for studies from a small town. She was studying at a private college. They used to spend all the time together. Zoe didn’t like going to college as the government teachers used to miss their periods but Zoe bunked her class because she loved spending time in a hostel, a new family for her.

A Sunday morning, Archie knocked on the door of Zoe’s room with news of Paly’s return. Three of them gossiped and discussed over the friendly equation Zoe, Archie and Paly will share now.

Paly & Archie were classmates but Archie had built a stronger and close relationship with Zoe now so did Zoe.

Paly was jealous to find that Zoe has built a good friendship bond with Archie. Zoe avoided Paly as much as she can. She was hurt what Paly has done.

Zoe always wanted to join the gym and groom herself, she joined a gym and followed the diet plan. She started reducing weight.

Here the tensions in the hostel started to rise more as Archie avoided Paly which made Paly lose her temper. Paly wanted Zoe to be with her and obey her.

One afternoon, when Zoe was taking a brisk walk on the terrace. Paly came to Zoe and said:

Paly: What’s your problem? Why you are not talking to me? You are becoming over smart after shifting here. Don’t forget, I am your local guardian here, I will complain to your parents how you have bypassed and made friends with others and what you do here.

Zoe didn’t say anything and turned around to leave. Suddenly Paly forcefully pulled her hand to stop her.

Now, what will happen? Will they both will be able to clear their differences?

Will Rudra ever connect with Zoe?

Stay with me for the next part.

Chapter-2; Page-6

The lecture already started when Zoe reached. As she entered the class, the lecturer took her introduction and allowed her to sit after induction.

Zoe wore a yellow colour traditional salwar suit with floral dupatta (scarf) and was quite nervous. Already the girls had made their own groups and it was difficult for her to fit in.

After the class, the senior batch arrived, all the classmates stood up to show their regards. In India, ragging wasn’t banned then. They made strict dress codes, girls were asked to wear only salwar suits with one ponytail and boys had to be in formal attire for two months.

They called up Zoe to introduce herself in front of the class. Zoe was a charming girl with a childish nature. She loved to read and those days she was reading palmistry books, so soon she grabbed the attention of seniors and became popular. She made many new friends, all the girls wanted to be her friend. Though she was introvert during her school days, she opened up and started making close and good friends.

On the other hand, Rita was making her hostel life very difficult. She used to switch off the lights early and Zoe wasn’t allowed to talk or study. Sam was her only friend with whom she shared her daily life. They both used to talk for late nights, Zoe sat on the terrace for hours and hours under the sky looking at the stars.

Every day she used to cry for hours especially on Sunday’s as she missed her parents badly. She used to miss her lunch as she returned in the evening from college and kept on feeding herself with Maggi or Ramens. Rita never went to college, and all she used to do was to sleep the whole day and express her dislike towards Zoe.

One day, Zoe made some eggs for her evening snack, it was late evening when Rita entered and started screaming on her for cooking eggs and complained to her that the room was stinking. She took out Zoe’s perfume and sprayed everywhere in the room and poured all in the washroom. Zoe was so upset, she cried all alone in the terrace and many girls did notice her.

The next evening, in the hostel senior girls who noticed Zoe crying, called Rita and asked the reason. They said not to trouble the little girl as everyone was aware of Rita’s nature.

While Zoe being unaware of all was studying in the room,Rita banged the door and started shouting at Zoe.

Rita: I told you to speak to me directly if you’ve any problems. Why the hell you complained to other girls? You look innocent but you are not. You are disobedient.

She kept shouting and Zoe was trembling with fear. Finally, Zoe gathered some courage and said

Zoe: I didn’t say anything to anyone and I don’t know anybody here.

Rita: Don’t lie on my face, why the girls will come up to me if you haven’t said anything. Don’t cry in front of others and utter a word against me.

Zoe: You used my perfume and sprayed in the whole room. You don’t allow me to study and never accept my lunch from the staff. I starve every day, you make me wait outside when I get back. You misbehave with me every time and yet again you are yelling at me.

Zoe said all this after 2 months while she was shivering with fear and anger. Rita was shocked as she didn’t expect that the girl will start to get words. Zoe left the room immediately with her bottle to fill water. She was badly missing her mother and was silently crying, the hostel owner noticed her crying he was already aware as his family members and other girls noticed her crying and about Rita’s behaviour towards her. The next day, when Zoe returned from College the owner called her and made her comfortable so that she could share her problems. She finally narrated the whole incident to him. The owner assured her that she won’t face further problems or issues again.

Meanwhile, in college, Zoe made a new friend called Nile, she was from Gwalior. Nile was a very helpful and supportive girl. Zoe also became a part of a group of five friends who all were from the local town. They used to hang around, sit together and went to the same coaching class.

After a few days, the owner called Rita for discussion.

Owner: It has come up to my notice that Zoe is still not comfortable here. She has just left her family and you are old enough to help her out. What are your issues with her? I heard you screaming at her a few days back and you never take her lunch. Every day she comes and finds her stale food lying in the hall.

Rita: She cooked eggs in my room and I didn’t like it. If she cries, it’s not my problem. I don’t beat her even I don’t talk to her.

Owner: This is my hostel and anyone can cook food according to their own choices. I have not barred anyone, to eat non-vegetarian food. Earlier I warned you to be a good roommate else to vacate this hostel. Leave the room in 2 days, find a roommate for yourself or take a single room.

Rita returned to her room and didn’t utter a single word to Zoe. She was waiting for her reaction. The bell ringed and Zoe went outside to speak to Sam.

What will be Rita’s next reaction towards Zoe? Sam and Zoe will remain just friends or love are about to blossom…!!?!
Keep thinking till upcoming part…

Zoe-Chapter 3; Survival of the fittest

Page-5

The clock ticked 10:45 am and Zoe was sitting on the stairs. Suddenly she heard the hostel caretaker’s voice coming from the bay. She rushed with hope towards him and requested to knock at Rita’s room.

The caretaker knocked on the door seeing the servant Rita immediately opened the door and gave a dead look to Zoe, she said to the servant not to disturb on Sunday’s like this. After the servant settled down Zoe’s belongings he left.

Zoe’s situation was as if a lamb forced to enter into a tiger’s den. She was nervous and afraid of Rita. Rita asked her to settle down and she went to cook breakfast for herself.

The room was small and at the corner of the room, it had a damp ceiling. There were two iron single beds and 2 tables at both corners along with 2 chairs. On the left side of the room, a washroom was attached. A big iron rack was placed at the left corner where selves were equally been divided among the roommates. There was a room cooler fitted outside the room at the window, a small gas cylinder was placed at the corner near to the door which was owned by Rita.

She prepared tea for both and served Zoe with a few biscuits and mixtures and here the interaction began :

Rita: This is your first day so I made tea for you also that doesn’t mean that it will become a practice on a daily basis. You have to use and cook your own stuff though if you are very hungry and it’s midnight you cannot go outside to purchase any food for yourself then I will allow you to have some mixtures only a few just to control your hunger so that you don’t starve.

Zoe: I will keep in mind to fill my stock and not disturb you.

Zoe noted that she must never borrow anything from her.

Rita: I wake up late during Sundays and I generally go to bed early to make sure that you also build the habit to sleep early and not to disturb.

I am vegetarian but you can cook eggs in the gas after this month, I cook omelettes for my boyfriend as well but this is Savana ( a holy month in Hindus where people don’t eat non-vegetarian food) so after that, you can.

Zoe: My father has already asked for a new gas cylinder for me but it’s taking some time once it comes I won’t create trouble for you.

Rita: If you have any problem don’t share to anyone discuss only with me. If you ever tell to anyone then it won’t be good for you as I will get to know as no one will trust you, I am living in this hostel for 3 years and all the girls will turn against you.

If you borrow anything return immediately after your work is done, I don’t like to ask for my own stuff… Rita continued giving instructions and she was threatening her sweetly.

Rita is a mischievous and arrogant girl, many girls have complained against her earlier also when Rita was chosen as new roommate of Zoe the owner of the hostel called Rita and strictly instructed her not to trouble the kid and he has given words to Zoe’s father to take care of her. He also informed Rita how Paly refused to keep Zoe in her ki room to avoid interference in her private life by a family friend.

So Rita already knew that if other girls get to know her behaviour or the owner gets to know about, its consequences won’t be in her favour.

After the tea, Zoe arranged her room and kept all belongings to her place. Tomorrow, will be her first day of college she had no friends in the hostel nor she knew anyone in Gwalior she had very fewer friends in school but one of her school friend Sam was still in touch with her. They use to talk for and go to the same tuition classes. Sam called Zoe and both share their experiences about the new place.

Sam went to South India for his higher education.

Zoe was missing her room badly, it was her first time without parents, she was afraid of Rita which made her remind the instruction to sleep early. She quickly closed her eyes and tried to sleep without making any noise.

Will Zoe be able to survive and complete her studies? Will Rita bring troubles in Zoe’s life? How will Zoe manage to stay with Rita? Will Sam and Zoe become close friends?

You will get all your answers…stay with me till the end of the journey!!

Zoe-Chapter-2; Page-4

The wait is over, the result is out Zoe went with her mom to check the result. There was a room in which few officers were sitting in front of computers and candidates were mentioning there enrollment number and the officers were mentioning their result.

Zoe: My enrollment number is 22567

Officer: ( searched result ) Your rank is 15.

Zoe was so happy to know that amongst thousands of candidates she performed so well. Other candidates looked at Zoe and admired her intelligence. Her parents were feeling so proud of her.

Now Zoe had two options either she can wait for the next date for PI round and get into a renowned and expensive college or she can be a university student and pay very less amount for her graduation and save her parents money. Moreover, a government university degree holder has more value as it is not so easy to pass the exams.

The very next day Shivaji University starts admission which goes throughout the day. You can’t miss even a minute as thousands of students are waiting for your seat. A minute’s delay and you lose your chance.

So finally it was decided that Zoe will take admission in Shivaji University. The admission process starts from 9 am next morning. So the family after confirming their decision went to bed. Zoe’s parents got emotional that they have to live without her child.

Zoe reached on time the next morning at the auditorium with her parents, they grabbed a seat and waited for the procedure to begin. They were assuming that they will get free in an hour’s time as they expected they will be called according to the ranks.

The admission process started :

The Indian government has reserved access in government jobs, higher educational institutes and legislatures.

So the scheduled tribes, scheduled caste, army wards, university employee wards, foreigners, Other backward classes names were been called irrespective of their ranks.

Zoe and her parents waited for their turn, time passed by from 10 am to 2 pm and then 2 pm to 4 pm. They were hungry, anxious and exhausted and at last when the clock ticked 5:10, general caste was called according to their ranks.

Finally, all process was done and here comes the new phase of Zoe’s life. The college will start after 20 days and Zoe returned to Bhagalpur a city in Bihar where she lived with her parents.

Zoe packed all her belongings but she couldn’t manage to get her tickets a week later from the day of joining.

Her parents cried because she’s the only child and was leaving them for studies 1112 km away from home.

Zoe was ready to leave with father while she saw her father was in her room.

Zoe : Dad, why are you sitting her.

Father : (Sobbing) 😪Now this room will be vacant after you leave.

Zoe : The way you are crying, it makes me laugh you are looking funny😛

Both started laughing and hugged each other.

Zoe reached the hostel with her father though they were relieved that she will be staying with Paly, Paly is four years elder to her and has seen her from birth. They entered the hostel and soon was informed by the hostel owner that Paly has decided to occupy the whole room and won’t stay with another roommate. They were aback to hear the uninformed change. Now she has to find a new roommate who will be entirely strange. Her father stayed there for a day helped her to settle down. A 17-year-old girl Zoe was in a strange city among strange people all alone.

She got a new roommate name, Rita. Her father left for home early morning and she returned to her hostel with her all belongings. Her room was on the 3rd floor nearby staircase, it was a two-seater room. The hostel consists of more than 70 rooms. Zoe climbed the stairs and knocked on the door of her room at 8 am but her roommate didn’t open the door for 2 hours, she waited outside. She was confused and afraid, she didn’t know anyone and being an introvert girl she didn’t know to interact with others. She sat at the staircase and waited for her roommate to wake up and open the door for her.

Rita is of short height and a bulky girl she’s a 3rd-year student of engineering. It was Sunday morning and all the girls were roaming around the bay, giggling, talking and working. Zoe sat helplessly and waited for her roommate to open the door, it was August and was hot outside.

Did Rita open the door for Zoe? How will be her new roommate? Will she manage to survive all alone? What will happen when Zoe will start her college from the next day?

Wait for the release of Part-5, till then cherish and enjoy reading the blog!!

Zoe- Chapter-2, Zoe in Gwalior

Page-3

The day arrived when Zoe’s parents and Paly’s mother travelled for Gwalior. Gwalior is a city in central India known for palaces and fort. Gwalior was emerging as an educational hub for nearby states as the lifestyle and education was a way cheaper than the metro cities.

Zoe with her parents reached Paly’s hostel. It was the first time she saw a girl’s hostel, there were around a hundred or more girls residing in the building. Zoe looked like a kid but her attire was quite outdated and she looked like an alien with her specks in traditional attire. Girls whispered at her back. They settled down in the hotel nearby.

The next day was her exam and she was nervous as it was a government university spread in wide acres of land. The university was teaching 99 different courses and ranked 7th largest university in Asia.

Zoe’s father’s bell rang and her maternal uncle informed about the result of Saint Carmel’s. She scored highest marks in English and lowest in Maths she scored well in rest subjects. Her PI round was selected in the second lot due to her fewer marks in Maths hence they need to wait for the next 20 days to get the date confirmed.

Shivaji University was very reasonable as it’s under government also if you hold amongst 16th position you will also get scholarship hence the fee will be almost 70 times lesser than Saint Carmel.

Zoe went for the exam the University was fully packed with students all over India. Finally, she finds her way to the examination centre and took a sigh of relief after looking at the test paper. It was way easier for her. She was happy after her exam and returned to the hostel the result was to be declared in the evening on the other day.

The hostel was having two & three-seaters sharing a room. Few occupied a single room Paly’s roommate was about to vacate the room hence it was decided that Zoe will be staying with her. They visited palaces and fort went shopping during the rest of the time.

Zoe met with Archie, Paly’s friend she was a quite humble and polite girl. She belonged from the same state so Zoe felt homely.

Here comes the day of Zoe’s examination result was to be declared. She went with her parents and was waiting for the announcement to be made.

Will Zoe be able to get admission in Shivaji University or she will return to Kolkata?

Stay with me to read the fourth page.

Zoe-Chapter1: Page 2

Zoe landed Kolkata with her parents to get admission in college. She was a bright student but she wasn’t interested in preparing for medical examination. She wished to be Masters in Business Administration hence turned down other options.

The day Zoe landed bad luck followed her with strikes in Kolkata, she went to various reputed colleges and discovered that Bachelor’s of Business Administration was yet not introduced in courses others already closed their admission process.

Finally, she filled her form for a very well known college which was established in the British period. Zoe was nervous because Saint Carmel was a very reputed college and the competition would be really tuff.

Meanwhile, they searched for a few more private colleges and they were charging quite a high fee. She wanted to move to Delhi as the capital had a much better option but Kolkata was her native place so parents were not convinced. They suggested another town which was emerging to be an educational hub in the state. But at the last moment, Zoe with her all courage denied studying there.

The day arrived where she went with her parents for the written exams. She was nervous and confused she wore a salwar suit (Indian dress ) and was waiting at the entrance of the college. There were so many other candidates who appeared to be older than her. Zoe completed her schooling at a quite early age, she touched her parent’s feet and went towards the examination hall.

The paper was divided into four subjects, general knowledge, English, Reason and Maths. Zoe was poor in Maths, she didn’t like to practice as it seemed a foreign language to her it was difficult to understand. Zoe’s parents interacted with others and got to know that 99% of students dropped for a year to prepare for this exam. However, she finished her exam and returned with a confusing face. She wanted to get admission there but was nervous because she somehow knew that it will be difficult for her to meet the standards.

Zoe was waiting for her result and started preparing for a personal interview round meanwhile, her father was talking to his family friend suddenly he suggested him to try for the university his daughter is in. However, Zoe’s father didn’t want to send her so far but she convinced her parents to take her once for the entrance exam. They booked a ticket for Gwalior and thought to take a try, Paly her family friend submitted the examination form. Shivaji University, a government university and well known those days where almost 30000 students applied for 60 seats.

Will Joe be able to clear the written exams of both the colleges? Which city will be her destination? To know to stay with me.

Zoe-Light of Moon

Chapter 1: Page-1

Today is a very important and life-changing day of high school students. The result will be declared at 10 am, Zoe was panicking at her room while her father went to check the result.

Zoe worked hard for her exams and now is the day which will decide her future. Zoe is fair and fluffy, a girl with brown hair and tiny eyes who carried spectacles. She is beautiful but her beauty is hidden under her attire which her mom used to select for her, her dress sense was old-fashioned and has very fewer friends. She liked to stay at home doing nothing, she is lazy and bunks her school and tuition always. However, she seemed to be studious but the truth was she’s forced to study. Her parents are very protective of Zoe.

Finally, her father returned home with a smile on his face and proudly cheered at her. She scored very good marks which were way beyond their expectations. Her parents were busy calling all relatives and informing about her result.

Her turning point was the day when the tuition teacher challenged her mother that she won’t be able to score good marks. She promised her mother, that she will score good marks so she studied night and day.

She informed the same teacher about her result who was biased for a few students one of her favourites was Zoe’s crush named Rudra. Zoe was a shy natured girl and never interacted much with Rudra though they were in the same class and went to the same tuition teacher. She received a call from the school, they wanted to congratulate Zoe so asked to visit her. She got ready and went to school. All the teachers congratulated her, the principal offered sweets and blessings, her picture was clicked and published in the newspaper. She had fewer friends she interacted with very lesser people though she had a great sense of humour. She was like fresh air for her friends as she was a charming personality, made her friends laugh on her jokes.

Because of her introvert nature, she was mistaken as a girl who carries a lot of attitude including Rudra but doesn’t know what was the thread between them whenever Rudra was nearby Zoe butterflies wobbled in her stomach. She was the kind of girl whom no boy will consider to make her girlfriend and she also knew that and always lacked confidence in herself.

Here came the turning point of her life when her parents agreed to send her away for higher studies. But it was already late as even her parents didn’t know her potential they didn’t apply earlier in colleges. They travelled to a metro city for her admission, she approached many colleges and but admission process were already closed.

Will Zoe be able to fulfil her dreams? Ever she will meet her crush?

To know the next part stay with me.

In a long-distance relationship during the lockdown or Quarantine phase?

This is for you.

This blog is for those couples who are in a long-distance relationship or unable to meet their lovers due to lockdown phase,I maintained my 10+ years long-distance relationship being miles and miles away from each other.

I agree it’s difficult to maintain the long-distance bond and many couples tear apart.

We also faced the difficulties as you do, when we were as college students it was difficult to sustain due to :

  • Financial Crisis
  • Immaturity
  • Lack of physical presence of a partner
  • Finding Your partner nowhere in weekends, sickness and during the thick & thin time.
  • Missing your partner

But at a certain age though departing is never happy we get habituated to it.

Few tips to help us to maintain the charisma, here they are :

  • The excitement of reunion: In a long-distance relationship or lockdown phase, the best moment is when we will book our tickets and then the countdown begins. It keeps your bond lively & fresh. After missing each other and urge to spend time together as we did earlier will make our bond stronger.
  • Preparing yourself for the day: After the lockdown phase is over and we will plan to meet, we will go for shopping, start making plans and buy lots and lots of stuff to gift our partner. Excitement is always at its peak.
  • Cherish memories: Departing is very painful but the happiest part is we built memories.
  • Ignore fights: The best part is we ignore fights and arguments because it’s there in our mind that if we continue this fight we have a few hours left and ruining it is not a good idea.
  • Fulfil the wishlist: Everyone does discuss their to-do list with their partner either it’s a long drive or being or a romantic dinner date. We do miss our partners, we all wish to fulfil dreams of our love during this short time frame. These are the “Awwwwwww” moments now coming to the point, trust me it’s not easy to maintain a long-distance relationship.

Any suggestions and feedback are always welcomed.

Stay happy & cherish your life because you are precious !!

Read this if you are getting Squeezed in a bad job.

I am writing this blog to share my learnings I experienced after grabbing an opportunity from a pathetic company. Hence I would like you to know while job-hopping.

I worked in a company for almost 36 days and on the very first day, I got to know that I made a blunder opting for it even after having two offers in my hand.

Key points to research :

  • Online search: Surf glass door /indeed for reviews and ratings.
  • Search on Social media: Search company’s page on Facebook and also hunt people on Facebook/Linkedin. The more employees you find working with that company the more you can understand the strength of the company.
  • Don’t entirely rely on the company’s website: You will find many companies with an attractive and promising website though the reality is quite the opposite.
  • Take a tour of the company: The first and important lesson I learnt was on the first day itself. The day I joined I witnessed that the company was missing all the basic facilities and then I realized that at least I should have noticed before.
  • Check your offer letter: Thoroughly go through the offer letter, your salary annexure, designation and columns mentioned.
  • Clear your doubts: Before you join, be clear with the HR policies, payday and other facilities. Don’t trust the rosy pictures that are shown to you, neither rely on the imaginary projects.
  • Take feedback from employees: After I joined and interacted with the employees I learnt that they have no fixed pay-day and they are paid after a month and half of their work or even later. They need to plead for their salary even.
